Fatal Twist 02:52
Before the ending comes to stay All of this must go away We’re burning off our time in place And all of this will end And I was singing death I was singing death I was singing death I was singing death When everything that lasts will change Return to dust another day But there was nothing I could say To maybe change your mind And you were singing I can’t let it stall Ever onward engines crawl Before we go and throw it all away And I was singing death I was singing death I was singing death I was singing death
2.
How it started out don’t matter anymore I don’t carry round no baggage from before I came out on top why can’t I drop my eyes? I came out alright why can’t I stop from crying? I don’t care about your feelings anymore I’m not trying to force what’s never been deformed I won’t clamor for the attention anymore You can’t fight it all or it's not worth fighting for Burnout brite before my eyes, what a night to end a life with Unholy tides, look for a sign and you will find it, and you will find Only chaos in the wake of time and trying I don’t need to search for reasons to explore There’s no value in the things we once adored
3.
False Gods 04:09
From a pyre in a field, it started out so long ago Now we’re stuck inside apartment walls being burned out on our phones You can feel it on the air as you walk out to the car From down the bar, it’s out in the dark You can hear it in the sirens out on the wide open road If the world has gone insane or is still the same, and would we all know But we know what they are, we know what they are They’re all false gods They’re all false gods It don’t matter where you go Somehow you will always know And you keep it to yourself You were once young and you thought your life was worth nothing less Now the very likeness of yourself keeps dragging you to dread You can see it on the empty faces where we used to find Ourselves inside, now you cannot hide That you can’t deny They’re all false gods They’re all false gods From a pyre in a field To the empty feeling that you have And it makes you who you are Well there’s a song that you don’t know And oh it’s goin’ out to all the false gods
4.
Now that time is done When time is running out When time is running out And now the time has come To build ourselves a house Or burn it to the ground I’ve given all I have, I’ve given all I have It’s everything at last, and it’s all that I am I’ve given all I can, I’ve given all I can And everything that left is not so easy to forget Easy to forget Speaking of the truth, you and me For all the shit we give Through more of it we live And you can hardly breathe Beneath the weight of it Well its all that I am It’s all that I can deal with I’ve given all I can, I’ve given all I can It’s everything at last, and it’s all that I am I’ve given all I have, I’ve given all I have For all we’ve lost to slime in working overtime I’ve given all I can, I’ve given all I can And everything that left is not so easy to forget Easy to forget
5.
The forces on me now Make it hard to brave Do you trade your life away For the life you wanna make? As it all goes up in flames Makes more sense to me now No help is on the way And there’s no way out So take your turn and burn I don’t wanna make the one mistake That I can’t take back But the habit’s hard to break And this time I wanna make The most if I can’t make it last As the fields are catching fire And we’re clearing out the way All it takes is one desire To destroy in the light of day I don’t wanna make the one mistake That I can’t take back When the world is waking up And the future’s looking rough The work is never done And the war is never won No I don’t wanna make the one mistake That I can’t take back Take back, take back, take back So take your turn and Burn it up forever, forever ‘til we die Scraping it together, forever ‘til we die Annoying me forever, forever ‘til I die Literally forever, forever ‘til I

Crazy constant state of doubt And lack of life within I know coffee don’t cure depression But I drink it like it can Surely there’s somethin’ else to hold onto For future wasted plans And in the morning I won’t wanna wake up To face the void again, oh man There’s nothing left to dream up Or give a damn No reason not to break your heart It’s over and began, oh man With every emptiness inside Myself for what I am I know tomorrow may not even be here To take a final spin And everything that never was Will disappear and end I know coffee don’t cure depression But I drink it like it can I keep drinking it like it can I’m drinking it like it can
7.
I saw white ghosts on the beach running out of view At dusk butterflies creep into your stomach too When under the knife what dreams may come to you? You were gone before the wind even knew I know you, you, you won’t let me down I know you, you, won’t let me down Addicted to distance and waiting to shoot Till the nightmare is over, over for you And when lightning strikes twice in a lifetime it may be too soon Cutting you open and bleeding through I know you, you, you won’t let me down I know you, you, you won’t let me down There must be something in your blood ‘Cause there’s not much more I can do It’s biologically burned in, and it’s burned into you Like a noose ‘round your soft neck, slowly choking you The white ghosts on the beach running after you I know you, you, you won’t let me down I know you, you won’t let me down I know you, you, you won’t let me down I know you, you, you won’t let me down

about

All the songs on Sad Sack Starter Pack except one were written between 2020-2022 and are basically about grasping for identity and purpose. I think I was figuring out how to move forward and bridge the gap between who I was before and after that time, which felt very different then and even more so now.

The core of the songs were initially written on acoustic guitar, and then we all got together and worked out the structure and arrangements, then finalized the lyrics. Many of the songs turned out very different than the initial demos, especially Non-Holo Rare, Forever 'Til I Die, and False Gods.

***Digital download comes with a bonus track of the whole EP played in reverse. We did this as a joke during sequencing, but then totally loved it and decided to release it as side B on the cassette. It's like a whole different group of songs with familiar yet unique melodies.

about

Dreamjacket Chicago, Illinois

Let’s say for a moment, The Jayhawks wrote the score for a David Lynch movie - a little country, a little rock, and a dark introspective feel that is both joyous and melancholy. This is Dreamjacket, the musical blanket you wrap yourself in to drift off into a shoegazey fog of bliss. Tuck in and listen. ... more
